The History, Evolution, And Current Opportunity For Behavioral Health Providers In Addressing Population Health

The History, Evolution, And Current Opportunity For Behavioral Health Providers In Addressing Population Health

By early 2025, over 60% of healthcare payments will be tied to performance-based incentives, with behavioral health playing a key role in outcomes. Up to 52% of patients under alternative payment models (APMs) have behavioral health conditions, with an additional 20% potentially undiagnosed. Health care payers recognize the importance of addressing behavioral health in order to improve overall health and lower overall costs.

While 10% of the population expends 70% of healthcare resources, over half of that same population experience a behavioral health condition—with the majority having 2+ chronic conditions. Health care payers are taking innovative action to address health equity, health access, and health outcomes for these complex populations.

One of the evolving and innovative models used by payers includes population health care delivery models, such as Clinically Integrated Networks or CINs. CINS are an evolution of early ACO models and position the behavioral health provider as the primary partner with the complex-needs-consumer, within a larger integrated health system. Through CINs, primary care, behavioral health, hospitals, and specialty care providers join together under a provider-led governance structure to address whole-person care, improve outcomes, and reduce costs.

Join Mike Rhoades, Chief Executive Officer of Alera Health, as he discusses how the healthcare landscape has evolved toward population health care models and how you can enhance your clinical impact, collaborate effectively in integrated care, and position yourself for success in value-based care models.
