New On-Demand Resource – What Provider Organizations Need To Know To Prepare For CalAIM

|

By OPEN MINDS Circle

Gettysburg, Pa. (June 11, 2023) — On June 8, 2023 OPEN MINDS Chief Executive Officer, Monica E. Oss and OPEN MINDS Vice President, Western Region, Richard Louis, III, delivered the executive roundtable Financial Sustainability During Medi-Cal System Reform – What Provider Organization Executives Need To Know To Prepare For CalAIM. The OPEN MINDS senior team members discussed the likely effects of CalAIM on the operation and sustainability of community-based provider organizations. The session provided an in-depth analysis critical for developing a strategic plan that will drive competitive advantage and financial sustainability. The OPEN MINDS Executive Roundtable is available on-demand for OPEN MINDS Circle Free Members: https://openminds.com/market-intelligence/resources/financial-sustainability-during-medi-cal-system-reform-what-provider-organization-executives-need-to-know-to-prepare-for-calaim/.

During the session, Monica E. Oss addressed the key strategic sustainability challenges providers will likely face during the CalAIM system transition, including changing reimbursement models, integration of service delivery in whole-person care approaches, reimbursement revenue in alternative models, increased competition to serve Medi-Cal members, service line redesign, and more. Ms. Oss also discussed the need for revenue enhancement, competitive market repositioning, and the adoption of new technologies in the CalAIM era of person-centered care and population health management.

Monica E. Oss and Richard Louis, III, fielded live questions from attendees that included topics related to enhancing provider contract strategies to maximize new CalAIM service contracts with county mental health and managed care plans, to advice on how to limit revenue loss during the CalAIM payer reform transition to fee-for-service CPT code billing. “The need for unit cost and productivity management tools are essential, along with enhanced processes and use of technology to optimize productivity and reduce costs,” said Mr. Louis.

“At this time there are three provisions of the CalAIM initiative that have created strategic challenges for community-based organizations in the California Medi-Cal health and human services market: behavioral health payment reform; new service line design and implementation of Enhanced Care Management and Community Support; and new population health management capabilities,” said Mr. Louis.
